The honours were evenly shared at the close of first day’s play in the first Test between Bangladesh and England in Chittagong. England recovered well from 21/3 and later from 106/5 to end the day at 258/7. The strong England lower order of Moeen Ali (68), Johnny Bairstow (52) and Chris Woakes (36*) once again bailed them out of trouble. Teenage debutant Mehedi Hasan Miraz was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5/64, including the price scalps of Joe Root, Ali and Bairstow.
